Geomechanics.

Our programmes connect core screening with specialist mechanical and thermal testing to support engineering decisions.

THE QUESTION

How will the rock respond?

Start with the engineering decision, then select representative material using CT and CoreDNA. We connect the test results with the wider core dataset.

Methods & applications

  • Strength: UCS, tensile and triaxial testing
  • Static and dynamic elastic properties
  • Density–Vp–Vs integration for dynamic moduli and impedance
  • Compressibility and stress-dependent permeability
  • Thick-wall cylinder testing and solids production
  • Thermal properties and grain-size analysis

FROM CORE TO ENGINEERING INPUTS

Test the response.
Understand the conditions.

Each programme starts with a question—not a fixed test package. Connect core-scale variability to a targeted laboratory investigation.

01

Strength & deformation

Inform wellbore and fracture studies.

Triaxial, UCS and tensile testing; elastic properties.

02

Compaction & flow

Investigate response to changing stress.

Compressibility, Biot’s coefficient and stress-dependent permeability.

03

Sand & solids

Investigate failure and particle release.

Thick-wall cylinder testing, solids imaging and grain-size analysis.

04

Thermal behaviour

Assess temperature-sensitive behaviour.

Conductivity, expansion and heat capacity.

Test selection, sample requirements and operating conditions are confirmed for each enquiry. The schematic illustrates loading only; it does not represent a measured failure response.

A clearly scoped delivery.

CTS is your point of contact for planning the programme and bringing the results together. Where specialist laboratory or interpretation input is required, delivery responsibilities are identified in your proposal.

The scope distinguishes the measurement package and its included outputs from additional processing, interpretation and interactive reporting. Sample requirements and method limitations are confirmed before work begins.

A CONNECTED WORKFLOW

From question to evidence.

  1. 01

    Define the engineering decision

  2. 02

    Screen core and select samples

  3. 03

    Agree conditions and undertake testing

  4. 04

    Review results in geological context

Interpretation boundary
Laboratory behaviour depends on sample condition and the loading path. Field-scale predictions need a suitable model; they are not direct test outputs.
